Colorado State Patrol motorcycle destroyed in I-25 crash

The motorcycle was thrown across all lanes of site visitors into the heart median, wherever it caught fire and was wrecked, according to CSP.

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A Colorado Condition Patrol (CSP) bike trooper and a tow truck operator experienced minimal accidents just after a suspected drunk driver crashed into both their motor vehicles which had been parked on the side of Interstate 25 due to a prior crash.

“Today, we were being really lucky this problem was not even worse,” explained Colonel Matthew Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. “We have not always been this fortunate. This is a remarkable reminder of the hazards of both of those not moving above, and driving below the influence.”

Trooper Dean McClain and a tow truck driver responded to a single-car or truck crash in the southbound lanes of the freeway close to mile marker 157 all around 11:30 Tuesday night time. That is just north of the Air Force Academy.

McClain’s car was parked on the appropriate shoulder with its unexpected emergency lights activated, CSP said. Specifically in front of his motorcycle was a 2017 Freightliner tow truck, with its amber lights activated, loading the car from the 1st crash.

Close to 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of a 1998 Ford pickup traveled from the left lane, across the middle and proper lanes, and onto the shoulder, where by he collided with both equally the bike and the tow truck.

The motorbike was thrown across all lanes of targeted traffic into the middle median, where by it caught fireplace and was wrecked, in accordance to CSP.

At the time of the effects, McClain was standing on the west side of the guardrail. The tow operator, a 31-yr-outdated Colorado Springs male, was standing involving the tow truck and the guardrail.

Debris from the crash struck both of those McClain and the tow operator, producing minimal accidents, CSP stated. Neither was taken to the medical center.

Bernard Ewertz, 55, of Greeley, was driving the pickup truck, CSP mentioned. He sustained average accidents in the crash. His passenger, a 31-calendar year-old Greeley lady, was seriously hurt.

Ewertz was later arrested for driving under the impact, in accordance to CSP.

Two lanes of I-25 were being closed for about four several hours when the on-scene investigation took area.
